Sprint and T-Mobile Merger

Rumor has it, again, Sprint Nextel and Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile USA are in discussion to merge according to The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg. Sources close to the talks say the agreement is held in determination of T-Mobile worth and which entity will be the controlling carrier. Rumor of a Sprint/T-Mobile merger surfaced years ago when Sprint CEO Dan Hesse told The Financial Times that he saw “logic” in a combination of the two companies.

This merger would make the combined carrier a formidable foe for both AT&T and Verizon as they will be able to support both CDMA (best for U.S. call network) and GSM (best for worldwide call network). Plus consumers would have plenty of choice in phone types and WiMAX 4G mobile broadband speeds.
